I think it would be one of the best things for our country, but what do you think?

I don't think it has to do with minority, i think it has to do with the level of education combined with the level of professionalism. Then again, there are so many people in the society who don't believe that minorities are cotton-making, house cleaners who are nothing. If the stereo types are dropped maybe we couldhave a preident who is a minority. But hey, this is coming from a 14 year old's point of view.

The people of America will elect a minority at some point. The problem is not whether we are ready, but rather seeing a viable candidate put forward for consideration. The real question is are either of the 2 major political parties ready to run a minority candidate? The next election could be very interesting in this area, especially on the Democrat side, but only time will tell.

Only if it was a black person. A lot of people seem to be very eager to see a black president. I don't see as much/any excitement over the prospect of, say, a Native American president, or any other non-African American minority president, for example. Just an observation.

Besides that though, I think it would be good for this country too. If for no other reason then to show people that the well being of this nation isn't dependent on the color of our peoples skins, but on the quality of our individual characters. Red, white, black, brown, yellow, whatever....all of our races are equally as capable of producing top notch corrupt money-grubbing presidents. :D

It's really not a matter of whether or not America is ready for a minority President or a woman President for that matter... it's a matter of whether or America can sort out all the excretia and elect a competent President, free of strings from special interests and one who is not indebted to the super rich and powerful. THAT is the question we should ponder. In view of what has been elected lately... I'm not sure...!

I think America needs to focus on getting the best person for the job, the best person for the war on terror, the best person for our economy and for national security. If its a minority that fits that profile, great, if not, great. Doesn't matter to me what they are, that has no bearing whatsoever. I'd rather have a white male president than a minority if the white male was best for the job. On the other hand, I'd rather have a black female president over a white male president if she was best for the job. Its about the qualifications and ideologies, not about "minority" status

I vote on the ideology and issues.

Look at the way you've asked this question, however. A minority for president.

Maybe when they stop being considered a protected minority, and just get treated like every other American, it will happen.

I don't understand. I've been told all my life that race doesn't matter. It sounds like you think it does.

Every time I hear someone say how great it would be to have a minority as president, I figure they assume I'm a racist, and falsely believe that they themselves are not.

I'm not, and you are.

We already have.

Race is not the only way to determine if you are a minority. Just

The babyboomers, who outnumber all other generations in America 3-1, are now older, more conservative than they were when they were younger, and actually get out and vote. Until they are gone, it ain't gonna happen.

And WOW, the racism you guys are spouting out here in unreal.

Why not we already have and had minority mayors: harold washington, senators orack obama, congreeswoman, condeleesa rice, all sorts of people and they are doing just fine so I'm pretty sure they can take on presidency Bush did it so it can't be that hard.
