It all comes to the meaning one chooses to give to his life events. A person who divides them into good and bad will forever be at the mercy of "fate".
On the other hand, people have the most "terrible" things happening in their lives and yet, they themselves don't see them as tragic. Sometimes it seems to me that the old saying about God not giving you more to bear than you can manage is true. Maybe the people whose life is really hard are just stronger than the rest?
Another thought. If a person is lying, cheating and manipulating (no matter if he's getting ahead in life by it or not), he can't be feeling very good inside. Otherwise he wouldn't do it in the first place.

I guess it depends what you mean by get ahead. Maybe those who lie and cheat are better off financially, but they probably have a hard time looking at themselves in the mirror. I don't believe in fate, but I do believe in Karma, in the sense that you create your own consequences. While money, success, fame and power may seem like rewards, they can often be burdens. I personally cannot imagine a worst fate than despising who I am, not truly being proud of anything I have accomplished and feeling like I cannot trust anyone in the world? Who cares about the bank accounts? Don't you think they ultimately get what they deserve in the end?

"Seem" is the operative word here. To succeed in one area is to fail in another. You don't want to visit the internal pain and confusion that the evildoers will have to experience for how they live their lives now, thinking that it doesn't matter what they do or who they do it to. Not one of them can ever escape the penalty due. Is that getting ahead? No. You are ahead because you recognize what is going on and you have a code. Earthly items would be such a superficial reward for being a moral person.

does that discourage you from doing good?Do not be so,the thought and action in this very moment will determine the future result, this is the cause and effect, plant a good seed, you get good fruit but for it to bear fruit you have to have the right conditions, for instance, the bad is enjoying fortune is because the good deeds he had done in his previous life has bear fruit and he is enjoying the harvest in the other hand the good is experiencing hard times is the wrong he had done bear fruit and the good he is doing in this life is yet to ripen,it will in due time whether in this life or the next depends on the amount of wrong you had done in your previous lives.Do not be discourage,do as much good as possible that includes the body, speech and mind.to refrain form doing all evils and doing the good, life will change for the better, wish you the best

Because life is random, there is no such thing as fate or pre-ordained plan, bad things happen to ALL people because of coincidence, Murphy's Law, and random acts of nature and people. When the tectonic plates crash into each other and cause human calamities, are they worried about who's good and bad? Don't make me laugh. To think that good people are protected or somehow immune to the laws of nature is not logical or rational. If you start believing in fate and pre-ordained plans, then you're reverted to superstitious CAVE MAN logic....don't do it. Just kidding, do and believe what you want.

Again, you are obviously hanging with the wrong people.
The honest honorable people I know are doing just fine. The scammers, law-breakers and evil people may enjoy "things" from time to time, but remember they are always looking over their shoulder.
Karma can be a ***** baby!

I think that bad things happen and that this builds character
to see that we do the right thing. Don't give up climbing the
wall, because those people that lie, cheat and steal that
have no conscience--- fall down. You just don't see it because
you are still climbing.
