I am doing a science experiment that has to do with the light color preferences of cricket. Please dont give me crap this will not hurt the crickets all that will happen is they will have a choice of which enviornment they will go into and each enviornment will have a different color. So the question is would it be really loud to keep them in my room(which is the most convinient) or will I not be able to sleep at night. There will be about 50-100 crickets

It depends on the size of the crickets. I have a leopard gecko that I feed crickets to, and I have found that the younger/smaller crickets don't yet produce much if any sound. The older/bigger the cricket is the more noise it will make. I sleep with crickets in my room, and I do alright. They don't constantly make noise, and I think you should be fine. Sounds like a really cool idea for a science project, I'd like to know how it turns out. Good luck! You should be able to get crickets at most pet stores for about 10cents a piece, along with food for them like Nature Zone Total Bites.

You should try using younger crickets. They are not able to produce any kind of noise until they're fully mature, so the younger they are, the better, and it should not affect their preferences to light at all. Also, you can buy them at a pet store like petsmart for very cheap and they are willing to give you 100 of them. Just remember that you should also provide them with some sort of food or water source or else they will start eating each other.

Honey! The only way you are getting any sleep with all those crickets in your room is if you wear ear plugs...really good ones.
They can get incredibly loud.
I live in the country and I can swear to it.
There have been times when I couldn't sleep because 1 got into my bedroom and was chirping up a storm! I've actually had to get up and search for it so I wouldn't go nuts.
If either sleep deprivation or the ear plugs are an option...go for it!

It depends on how light of a sleeper you are, I have kids so anything wakes me up... I keep about 100 crickets for my fire bellied toads and they are in the living room(15 feet from my room??) and I can hear them at night. If you can find a different place to put them at night like the basement or bathroom I would. You'll need your sleep.

It depends on the cricket because adults can make noise but a lot of younger ones can't I own a lot of different reptiles and they can be really loud and annoying, not during the day though my suggestion, don't put them in the same room that you sleep in.
you can purchase crickets at

i understand what you're going via. I hate noise whilst i'm attempting to get some sleep. I even have tried many stuff including the ear plugs, yet no,i can not stand them. What works for me (will possibly not artwork for you) is white noise. White noise is a relentless flow of sound that blocks out many 'noises' that save you up at evening and by way of the day in case you elect to the two sleepduring the day or cat nap for the time of the day. regrettably it won't block out your associates improve improve music. think of snoozing under a waterfall. that's what white noise is like. Do you ever use a fan whilst it extremely is warm,in the time of sleep? that's what white noise is like, yet you get to regulate the quantity. How do I get right of entry to this white noise. easy,in case you have a television on your room (which maximum folk do) turn your television to a channel that exhibits 'snow' turn the channels brightness all the way down (if it bothers you) turn the white noise quantity as much as the place it blocks out the sounds that worry you. edit: I even have traveled plenty and confident, there is something they are in a position to do. they are in a position to spray around your apartments and kill the little boogers. I even have experienced this being finished at inns I even have stayed at.

We had a tank of crickets for our gecko..(and yes they did get hurt in this experiment) but they were 2 rooms away and drove me nuts. They just never stopped making noises, although if you have lights on them it might be a different story, I think they only do that noise at dusk/dark.

crickets are very noisy. before my veterinary nursing training i worked at a zoo in an area they kept crickets to feed the animals such as the meer Kat's.
they are very noisy and easily get out of containers.
use a stable, secure container and keep somewhere not in the house. they are very noisy and annoying! if one gets out they are a knightmare to catch as well!

o own an indoor lizard and i feed him crickets. yes they are veryyyyyyyyyyyyyy loud and i would not recommend them be kept in your room, also if they get out its bad because they get in small cracks and breed all over the place, that happened to me and it took months to get them out of the house
