My right leg and ankle is swelling really bad. It started out as a red patch toward the bottom of my leg. And was really sore then it started swelling and of course is still really sore. Any ideas of what it might be? I would appreciate any input. Thanks in advance. ps I am not pregnant.

Are you in occupation that you stand alot? You might want to go see you doctor just to make sure nothing bad may be going on. A friend of mine also had your same symptoms but she was always standing , and the shoes she was wearing did not give support to her arch on that foot. The side swelled because that side of her body was compensating for lack of support on her other side. Have your blood pressure checked and make sure you have steady blood flow in your legs, make sure it's not Deep Vein Thrombosis or a blood clot.

Besides an injury, or bite, the other condition that I can think of may be edema or retention of fluids in the limbs (although that is not always painful).
Given the wide variety of things that could cause this condtion (some serious), I would definitely seek medical advice. Even if it's only the "call a nurse" hotline type. At least you'd hear from a medical professional instead of "concerned citizens" on an internet forum.

if you were hit in this area, and the swelling is warm and you have fever then you may have an abscess (collection of pus) due to infection, you'll need evacuation and antibiotics. if you just had surgery or were immobilized for some time then it could be a deep vein thrombosis. tell me how old are you? and do you have diabetes? also you must see a doctor

this could be so many things that only with a exam and perhaps some tests could anyone know what the cause is .
i can tell you that some of the causes that are not obvious like an injury you remember can be very serious and could include loss of leg or loss of life.
knowing that i think you can figure out what to do now.

need more information, are you diabetic? Do you have Congestive heart failure? Did you have any trauma to that leg? Are you on dialysis? In any case go see a doctor....
