Watching the news today I hear people who are out shopping complaining about parking problems in the malls. Gee If I can walk to the bus stop, walk 2 blocks from the busstop to the mall and back carrying heavy bags (not necessarily today because I have to work, but when I do go shoppping) and I survive why can't people walk a short distance to their cars? Even the furthest away parked car is closer than my walk to the busstop. Why is everyone such weeklings? What are you going to do when we run out of oil and your cars won't run anymore? It IS going to happen in the future. You should be greatful you have a car to park.

Amen to that. But let me first say this: to some extent this is due to factors outside our control. We have been a car culture for so long that most of our neighborhoods have been designed so that they are far from stores, and we build roads instead of supplying good public transportation. So for a lot of people, it's too far to walk, and there isn't good bus service out in the suburbs, and maybe none at all further out.

But you're right, no one will walk. Studies made by shopping mall designers show that if shoppers have to walk more than 100 yards from their cars to the stores, they just won't go there any more. How lazy can you get?

i agree, but of course people are that way. I do not drive either but I get around the best way I can. The bus or walking. Someday I might own a car but until then, MTA here I come. People are going to be people not matter what........

People get into a comfort zone and then can't handle stepping outside. Perhaps they never learned how to prioritze what is really important in life. That is sad, I'm glad you have a good perspective on the situation though!

You might want to consider being a little less preachy. Other people go through hard things also.
