The first prime minister of independant India was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. modern India was modelled into a socialist republic in accordance with his socilaistic ideals. Sixty years down the line we may find a lot to blame him for but it is hard to deny that he was an idealist and a dreamer - though in hindsight one might feel that a pragmatist is a better leader dreamers and idealists should stay away from the real world of politics because a lot hinges on decisions taken by them.
