Assuming your problem is as folows,i am solving it
1/5(x-1) =1/4(2x+3)
=>1/(5x-5) =1/8x+12
=>5x-5=8x+12
=>5x-8x=12+5
=>-3x=17
=>x=-17/3

Not only is the second equal sign wrong, but the problem could be presented more clearly with an extra set of parentheses on both left and right. For example, do you mean,

1\(5(x-1)) = ...

or (1/5)*(x-1) = ...

1/5(x-1)=1/4(2x-3) (Equal sign assumed as minus)
or

5(x-1)=4(2x-3) or 5x-5=8x-12
5x-8x=5-12 or -3x=-7 or x=7/3

x=7/3 (Provided the question is correct)

1 / 5 (x - 1) = 1 / 4(2x-3)

4x - 1 = 10x - 15
-6 x = -14
x = -14 / -6
x= -2.34

1/5*x-1*1/5=1/4*2x+3*1/4

1/5x-1.2=0.5x+0.75
- 1/5x -1/5x

-1.2=0.3x+0.75
-0.75 -0.75

-1.95=0.3x

-1.95/0.3=x

x=-6.5
