I have a small domestic pet rabbit. He used to live in the dining room where it is pretty warm, but for thanksgiving my dad made me put him in the basement, and won't let me bring him back up. What is an okay temp. for my rabbit to live in. It's not even winter yet and my basement is already only 59 degrees. Plus this isn't too much of a problem in my basement, it's not that bad but it is slighly musty, and this worries me. can any one tell me what i should do, or what i should say to my dad to convince him to let me bring my rabbit back upstaris with the family?

they can handle the cold OK, its the heat that can kill them.(heat stroke) if you are still worried, give him extra blankets. if you decide to talk to your dad, be calm and positive. don't be too aggressive and you can even offer to keep it in your room. good luck.

Rabbits can tolerate 40 degrees to 85 degrees farenheit. 59 degrees temperature is the PERFECT degrees for a bunny! Whatever the other people say, don't try to make your bunny warmer, only 59 degrees! The ideal temp! The real problem is, will it get too hot down there in the summer?
Being slightly musty isn't a very good thing, because rabbits can easily has respiratory problems. To convince your dad to bring your bun bun back upstairs, get REALLY good grades (straight a's is the best ;) extra chores, extra studies, eat your veggies, be a total angel! Works for me every time ;)
Another thing, if your dad says no, try to make the basement a little lest musty if you can (try not to use aerosol sprays or air fresheners), and try to spend much time with your bunny downstaris so he doesn't feel so lonely! Tell your dad that bunnies are very sociable animals, and love to be with their families!

If you don't already have blankets down there, you should put a few down just in case it is to cold. The rabbit may get sick from the must. When you feed and water it try to keep it a little warmer than it was when it was upstairs. Like i said just keep a couple or so blankets down there and make a warm bed for the cold nights in the future. To convince your father you might want to tell him what happens to a rabbit in the wrong kind of habbitat. It could get very sick since it doesn't have the right tempeture in its new inviroment. That might help.

That's just cruel, your rabbit is use to be around people, and now it's stuck in the basement. I can understand just for the one day, Thanksgiving, but to make him stay, it's cruel. But rabbits in the wild live underground, and rabbits prefer cold weather to warm in the wild and for breading.

A rabbit can live in cooler air better then in warm air. Their fur coat will get thicker as the air gets cooler. Just remember to give them their feed (rabbit pellets) because they eat more in cooler weather to stay warm. Also water at all times is very important.
