Holy cow, that's 11.38 US dollars per pound! The best idea I have is to find a farmer who can sell you a live goose for less. Then you need a really sharp hatchet, a big pot of boiling water to scald it so you can pluck the feathers, and check the net to see how it's cleaned out. If you haven't done this before, do it on an empty stomach. At least the killing part. Around here, we shoot them on the way up to Canada. See if the farmer will bind it for you, because they're really nasty aggressive birds. They bite.
Not as bad as an emu, though. That was supposed to be the next wonder meat at one time, but the bottom fell out of the market. I heard of somebody who bought an emu promising it would have a 'good home'. He did it because the owner was selling for cheap. He intended to eat it though, and came in to work the next day looking like he had been in a bar fight.

We get ours from a local farm shop - but the price is only little less.
I would suspect that you would be better off trying your local butcher. If your supermarket has them on sale now they must be frozen. Try the butcher and he will get you a nice fresh one nearer the time.
