Yes, he was truly magical.
That is one of the few memories remaining of my childhood.
It was the story of an innocent little boy, and his imaginary dragon friend, who shared Jackie Paper's fantasy world.
He did share. He shared the childhood imagination of a little boy, who grew up and had to leave the ways of his childhood behind him.
For any other references, see Snopes. The poem which became the song, and the song itself, were both written and performed before Peter, Paul or Mary ever tried any products that later became attached to the song.
Puff the Magic Dragon was co-written by Peter Yarrow and Leonard Lipton. Lipton wrote the poem at Cornell, when he was a freshman at college, reflecting on his loss of childhood, in 1958, before there was a drug culture. Lipton was inspired by an Ogden Nash poem about the imaginary world of a little girl.

Quote from Leonard Lipton, also from Snopes:
"["Puff" is about] loss of innocence, and having to face an adult world. It's surely not about drugs. I can tell you that at Cornell in 1959, no one smoked grass. I find the fact that people interpret it as a drug song annoying. It would be insidious to propagandize about drugs in a song for little kids. "

You have the cutest questions! Thank you! Well Puff was a magic dragon who lived by the sea and frolicked in the AUTUMN mists of a land called Honah Lee (I have no idea what that means btw...I think that it just rhymed! LOL)

it will be legalized or decriminalized on a state or community element, although, everyone looks forgetting that it would nevertheless be unlawful on the federal element. i will see the federal authorities using this as an excuse to boost the manpower and powers of the DEA.
