the heater core is in the dash inside the engine. But open the hood and look on the firewall of the car. There should be 2 rubber hoses going inot the firewall and into the car. If factory they will have spring clamps just like on the radiator hose. Remove both lines. Then get a hose and put it in one line and run the water until it comes out clear. Then do the same thing with the other side. Do this a couple of times. Then reconnect the 2 hoses ahd check the level of the radiator. Then start the car with the radiator cap off and wait a while for the thermostat to open and have the heater on so it will cycle through the whole system. Then top off as needed.

Heater Core Flush

It is better to flush the whole system, but if you want to flush just the heater core, if you will go under the hood and look back on the fire wall you will see two water hoses that feed into the fire wall going into the interior of the car. With the engine cold, remove both of these hoses from the fire wall. This will expose two metal tubes or in some cases aluminum tubes. As a matter of fact some of them are actually plastic on some late models, but I believe that on a Ford Taurus they are metal in general. Anyway, after removing the hoses, just take a garden hose and stick it up to one of the tubes and water should begin to come out of the other tube. If it does not then the heater core is completely clogged and will need to be replaced. If it is not clogged run water through it about 4 to 5 minutes and then simply reattach the hoses and make sure to tighten the clamps well. Remove the radiator cap, start the engine, and let it sit and idle until up to operating temperature. Add coolant until it is full. (Note: Make sure that heater selection inside the car is all the way over on hot. Otherwise it will not completely fill the cooling system). Once full of coolant, replace the radiator cap. After driving the car in to town or to work and back, check the coolant again, With the engine cold to insure it is full. Happy motoring.

Depends. The heater core is under the dash on the passenger's side but if the car has A/C it's a BIG job to get at it.

Generally if you want to flush the heater core you do it when you flush the entire cooling system. To ensure that you flush the heater core, the heater controls have to be set to "hot", this will circulate the cleaning solution throughout the entire cooling system.

The heater core is buried in the dash and on some cars its a major project to get to. Fortunately all you have to do to flush it is find the hoses that go into it from the engine. After draining the radiator disconnect the hoses and hook one of them up to your garden hose, run water through it both ways. A professional radiator shop will have a more heavy duty method, it may be worth your while to go to one.

The heater core is part of the radiator/cooling system of the engine. You need to open the drain plugs on the radiator and run water through it (while the engine is running). To get the heater core flushed, you need to turn on the heater of the car as well. There are flushing kits available using a hose which are convenient and have instructions for use.

i would recommend flushing the whole system, radiator ,hoses and heater core this is the simplest and cheapest, you can buy a flush kit from autozone for 10 dollars, plus the antifreeze to refill. all it does is hook up to a waterhose. otherwise you would have to take out your heater core to just flush it.
