because nobody can logically prove whether it is or is not valid. and religion is a touchy subject, politicians don't want to isolate anyone.

Actually, too many of them find religious issues a convenient way to manipulate voters. Those who are "afraid" of them realize that religion does not come from a ratinal area of the brain, and public policy needs to be based on rationality.

Bush ain't afraid of religious issues-he got himself a Gay Preacher for a religious advisor-hallelejah....oh by the way Bush said God told him to go to war (according to a Palenstinian diplomat-Google it.)

Because there are no "right" answers. If you please the catholics you tick off the evangelicals and jews, if you please the evangelicals you tick off the moderate protestants and catholics, and so on. Until we all stop being so freakin' judgmental, any politician who tries to run on religion is just crazy.
