I dont think anyone can really answer this question for you. Its down to you as a mother and when you feel the times right for your little one.

I had my little girl in with me until she was 18 months. She was in a cot then just before i moved her into her own room i took her cot down and made it into a toddler bed so she got used to it. After a week i then moved her into her own room. Shes now nearly 3, i bought her a lovely new junior bed from ikea that she picked as the cot beds dont last too long with them jumping up and down on them and she loves having her own space with all her toys.

All three of mine went into their own room in a cot once they hit cot stage, i.e. when they were too big for the swinging crib and had to have a cot.

I've found that they all slept through quite quickly-my youngest is only 6 months but he's pretty much going through from 9 til 7 now. Obviously you have to check on them before your bedtime, and if I get up in the night for anything I stick my head in but I think it's good for them and you. You get your room and bedroom life back without having to worry about waking the baby and they get to go back to sleep if they stir slightly without interference-and it's important they learn to settle themselves or you'll be having dramas at 2 and 3yrs old.

It's only natural to worry and you'll probably be up loads at first but trust me it's good for them and you long term.

Good luck.

Oh, and i put them in a 'proper' bed once they could walk confidently-usually about 12-14 months, with a bed guard and a stairgate on the door so they can't escape. At this age they'll go in there no problem at all so you avoid all the issues at 2 or 3. Plus my kids were all too big to sleep comfortably(in my opinion) in a cot at that point.

Mine both slept in their own room the day they cam out of hospital. Holly was only 7 hours old the first time.

Sometimes a big cot looks so big to them, so if they are not settling try putting them in the moses basket or carry cot, and putting that inside the cot. This is so they get used to the room, and the bars, but are more enclosed.

Good luck.

Encourage independence so no reason to delay. I heard on the TV the other day that you should put the baby with his/her feet against the bottom of the cot with blankets tucked in down that end so that there's less risk of them wriggling under the covers and getting too hot during the night.

I put my daughter in her own room at 3months. My partners snoring seemed to disturb her sleep and she was very easily woken. In her own room its alot quieter and i have the baby monitor at the side of my bed so i can hear every noise she makes. They do say put babies in their own rooms at 6 months but i think you should do what is best for your baby and you. Long as you have a good baby monitor and your baby is safe in his room then he will be fine. I also think the later you do it the more they are likely to object to it.
Hope this helps

In a cot, he could have been in his own room from day one. Nervous parents tend to be the ones that wont let go.

I put my son in his own room at about 4 months & he was fine. If you have a baby monitor then there is nothing to worry about. If he doesn't settle, get him a mobile or one of those lights that fixes to the side of the cot.
I think it is ok to put them in their own room at any age, most people just keep them in with mum & dad for convenience while there are still night feeds.

Your child is only safe in a crib until they are two and half. If you put them in their own bed to soon you risk the chance that they can get out of bed anytime of day or night and stoll the house unsupervised. I would never ever put a child under 2 1/2 in any kind of bed that is not a crib (they cant climb out).
If a baby is on their own they can get hurt while you sleep. If they are a baby they should be in a crib, if they are a toddler (3 and up) they can go into a toddler bed.
The transition is not hard if you make it fun. Take the crib down and lay down with them to read or tell neat stories. My kids made the transition to a RACE CAR BED. They loved it and it is low to the floor so that they can not fall.
They looked forward to their bed.

we did it as soon as baby was sleeping through at 8 weeks before they become aware of the surroundings then the move to there own room is very smooth she didn't even notice really. we moved house when she was 5 months and she was fine with the new room and i think thats cause she was use to her own space

Its really whenever you're ready to let him sleep on his own, obviously if you live where the babys room is upstaira then invest in a baby monitor and take it with you when you go to bed.
There isnt really a rule for this type of question i understand we do ask ourselves thing like this but really its whenever you feel comfortable letting him sleep alone.
Wishing you quiet nights
