I'm from the Colorado area and I'm wondering about fun stuf to do in Denver, but not necessarily the normal stuff (museums, the mint, the zoo, etc.) Cool restaurants or bars, offbeat sights, weird activities, local shops, events, whatever. Also, links to travel guides that might feature this kind of thing would be great. Tanks!

RESTAURANTS AND COFFEE: There's a coffeeshop you should visit called Paris on the Platte, which is on Platte Street just across from downtown. It's near a huge REI with a climbing wall if you're into that. If you're into awesome pizza and wine, right on Platte Street is Proto's, which is the best pizza in Colorado. For a vegan meal, head down to 206 E 13th Ave for watercourse. Fortune says, your server will have tattoos.

DRINKING: The Mercury Cafe at 2199 California Street is sort of a hippie night club. Kind of political. If you're into dives, there are plenty just about everywhere. You'll also find lots of up-scale drinking establishments around Lodo, which is Denver's redeveloped warehouse district. If you're a beer drinker, I recommend having Great Divide's "Hibernation" ale. Pubcrawler.com is a great site for checking out local bars.

BEST VENUE: The Fillmore on Colfax is a great concert venue, if someone you like happens to be playing. Also, all of Colfax Avenue is an interesting sight, but be careful at night.

RANDOM PLACES: I recommend checking out the Derailer Bicycle Collective. See http://www.derailerbicyclecollective.org/ -- it's a free bike shop. If you have time, you may also check out downtown Boulder, which is a straight-shot about 20 miles up US-36.

Hope this helps.
