If so, will they be any different than the "investigations" they conducted in the '70s, '80s, and '90?
You know, the ones where they parade the CEOs of The Evil Oil Companies before Congress while the pols preen, pontificate, and generally make asses of themselves and, when all is said and done, literally NOTHING comes of the "investigation".
The reason, of course, is that The Evil Oil Companies are in the business of taking a commodity, modifying it, and then selling it. They don't price fix, cheat on their taxes, rob their shareholders, or any of the other dastardly things that others of The Evil Corporations are always doing.
So, exactly WHY will the Dems be sponsoring "investigations" of The Evil Oil Companies as soon as possible?

I say bring it on. And, after the investigations have concluded you will hear that they find no wrongdoing. I know you libs and your conspiracies have it all figured out, but oil companies do not make but 8 or 9% profit on gasoline. Your answer for everything is more government control. It's supply and demand, THAT is what drives prices and we are in competition with China since we are the two countries who consume most of the oil in the world. Oh, one more thing, It's not George W. Bush's fault either!
Excellent post! It's nice to know there are like minded people out there.

I think they will be too busy investigating the Bush Administration to worry about the oil companies right away. The Democrat solution to high gas prices will be the same one they proposed at the height of last summer. Raise taxes on oil companies. Now how this would be considered as a deterrent to already high prices is beyond me, but apparently it makes some sense to them. However, if Democrats do decide to investigate oil companies, I hope they at least put the CEOs under oath this time, unlike the last Republican hearings on the matter.
I don't have a problem with investigating the oil companies. I don't know if price gouging occured or if was truly supply and demand at work, but one thing is for sure, a new tax is not the answer. I do not know why people do not understand this one basic concept. If you raise taxes on businesses they will not just absorb the hit to their profit margin. The cost gets passed along to the consumer in the form of even more higher prices.

First of all, you are speculating with lots of "quotation marks" which start to "lose" "their" "impact" when you "overuse" "them" .
1. You don't have any firm facts to back up your opinion.
2. No announcements have been made by the Democrats, of investigations of price-fixing, price-gouging, or passing legislation for a tax on windfall profits, so why did you even post this ?
3. If price-fixing or price-gouging has been going on, don't you think the American public has a right to know this and demand reform ? Or are you satisfied for something like this to get deep-sixed by a Congress and Presidency controlled by only one party? I 'm not.
It sounds like you are an employee of one of the major oil companies or refiners, or a large stockholder of these firms. What are you so afraid of, if there's smoke, there's usually fire.
Finally, if it is determined that a windfall profits tax is in order on the oil companies, then so be it. These companies have had an oligarchical control on oil supply for over ten years. They have made RECORD PROFITS the last six years, with full support by the Bush Administration. The Bush Administration has even refused to release oil from the nation's oil reserves, while we are at war and the American consumer was suffering. I think that is unconscionable.

It's a way for them to raise taxes (their specialty) by eliminating oil subsidies. They eliminated airline subsidies years ago and most of the airlines in America are now in bankruptcy.
If they really want to do some good, why not gradually decrease and eventually eliminate tobacco subsidies? This would force tobacco farmers into other lines of business, maybe growing corn or sawgrass for ethanol and energy independence instead of growing something that causes cancer and emphysema.
Oh wait, that wouldn't work. Too many smokers would raise hob about the price of cigarettes.

Who said the democrats were back from the dead? Sitting up on the the gurney is common practice among the democratic brain dead. Now, can they take their act beyond that in the next two years, that's the real question?
I believe you answered your own question about "investigations!"
You know, about "generally making asses of themselves."

It is fine for them to make a profit, but not at the expense of the American taxpayer, when they are making billions in profit, why are they given exorbitant tax breaks. The Democrats are only going to reduce the tax breaks, so that industries that really need help in this country can get it. Oil companies don't price fix?? What planet are you from?

We the people are not happy with the price gouging, and don't tell us it didn't happen. I hope the Democrats have the political will to institute a Windfall Profits Tax. Or at least stop the government handouts to the Industry!

The polls tell them to , what ever the polls say , they'll do .
Then they'll find a way to tax it.
New Poll , just in !
