Honestly? I doubt most of them even think about gay rights outside of campaign planning. But even a token word in favor is better than a loud word against, and overall I'd say more democrats do than republicans.

Sure they do -- the problem is, I doubt many of them would stand up and speak publicly in support gay rights to an audience that wasn't made up of supporters. Like, the rest of the legislative body they're elected to...
They're too afraid of being tarred with derogatory language and having their position exaggerated. Which is dumb - they underestimate the voters' intelligence, we can all see through that - yet they're afraid anyway. Problem with Dem pols: no spine.

Maybe 40% do, the rest just want reelected. CA has likely the most politicians with a real agenda.

More so than the Republicans, but not nearly enough. And many who do would not jeopardize their careers by being vocal or adamant about gay rights.

I think a few of them do (20%), a lot of them don't care one way or the other (60%, whatever it takes for reelection), and a few are actually against it (20%, both openly and quietly).
I hope the 20% of the few who do care increases in the future.

yes, they do. But I am not making fun of them or with them. I do think gay marriage is wrong but the people who do it can't help themselves!
