Im curious because, I have a college degree and statistics show that a college graduate earns substantially more than those without that "piece of paper" However, not one company, I have worked for, asked for "proof". Could it be the level of the position? Or perhaps, the size of the company? Hell, I guess I can list ( on my resume )that I have a Master's degree if they're not gonna check. What do yall think??

It depends on the company I guess. I had a friend whose Father made up his resume and got a job teaching. He had absolutely no experience whatsoever in his field and almost made it to head of department but they actually did check the qualification then. He almost managed to talk his way out of it and become head of department but in the end both parties agreed that his employment should end. It worked out well for him because he used his teaching experience, which was gained by lying, to apply for and get other jobs.

It all depends on the company that you are working for.

Most of the time, if you are applying for a job that requires a particular degree, they will somehow verify that you have actually received that degree. Sometimes they will require you to send transcripts after you are hired. Sometimes they do background investigations, including your educational background, to verify the information that you provided.

Since 9/11, more company's are doing background checks. If the job requires a degree, most company's will do a degree check. As someone mentioned before, they might not check it right away. They might check it at some time during your probationary period.

First off, some companies ask for proof , some ask for transcripts, others call the university to verify that you graduated (When you graduated you probably signed a paper saying that the job resource center could verify that you did attend and graduate). IF they dont and you get caught lying it is an automatic dismissal for fraud.

I had to "Copy" my degree certificate when I had my first big job. These days lots people are checking. When they are torn between two applicants, finding out who had the highest GPA could help them make a decision. Don't ever lie on an application- it could cost you your job, even years later.
My brother lied on his application at a bank.Years later, He was up for a promotion, and they went back and checked some things on his application and found the lie. He got fired instead of promoted.

not all jobs require a degree. Those where the degree is mandatory will request a copy of your college transcripts.

Also I've noticed that sometimes they are slow about asking you for them, I worked for a company for three months (probatioin period) before they asked for a copy of my transcripts for their files.
