I got my 6 yr old son a V-tech learning system. It's video games but you learn at the same time. I'm not sure how high up the ages are but I'm sure 10 is still included. I got him the travel one so he could take it with him but you can also hook it up to the tv. He seems to like it and he's learning at the same time. Drums will get very annoying - all that banging. My son and 10 yr old daughter also have guitars they both like. Also they both have skateboards - They love those and it gets them outside. Those range from $15 up to a few hundred. The toy R Us website has a large selection. We bought a Tony Hawk board for my 10 yr old step daughter for $100. She said it was her fav Bday present
Hope this helps some

I don't recommend a drum set unless you're willing to listen to his "music." If you get him something educational chances are he wont use it. Instead, I would get him something like a kid-safe dart board, or even a new football, basketball, baseball (it depends on the sports he's into.) Plus it will get him active. Educational games aren't very cool and if I was him I'd be embarrassed to have it. For example a v-tech game, that's for toddlers! But if you must give him something educational a book would be ok, If he's into nature you could get him bug caching tools and a book that identity's bugs.

Blue Man Group Percussion Tubes
Speed Stacks Stack Pack
Laser Battle(a game-not a computer one)
The next two are expensive
Spy Video Car
Mindstorms NXT(a kind of build a robot kit)
Or just spend a day with him. Take him to a ball game or out to eat. Go to a movie or to the zoo or to an amusement park.

I do not know how well you relationship is with your brother but giving him all those things is not the same as spending the time to find out who he is.. what he is thinking of... where he wants to go with his life(ya he is 10)... the thing to give him is your time friendship and brotherly love (bond with him) don just give him some game or drum..... take him to a music store or to a ball game show him what life is he will never forget that..
make it the Sprite and gift of Xmas from you to him then see what he will become latter in life......

I got both of my nephews the game, 20 questions, it is a small video game, you can get them at any toys-r-us store, or walmart. It is sooooo fun. I actually bought one for myself too. They are about $10, lots of fun. It's a great way to expand their minds and they have to read the screen to answer. It is a great alternative to video games and they can play with friends as well.

Why don't you get him a card game like Uno, Skip-bo, or a board game, lots of them to choose from. They take someone to play it with and that could be the best present of all....time together.

Does he like something stupid and messy, like yu-gi-oh? Is he interested in music? Try finding out what he likes and buy him something related. Or you can take a gamble and buy him something you have no clue if he likes it or not. You may be able to get him involved in something new!

you could give him some money (maybe like 20 or 15 dollars) so he can buy anything that he wants that is under the amount of money that you want to give him.
