My company has a network whose domain name is "ENTERPRISE". All computers in the office connect to this domain via individual LAN cables. With this setup, each computer can access internet, printers, files and company email accounts. Now, the problem with my computer is that though the LAN works, i.e. I can access internet and use MS Outlook to check my office email. But unfortunately, my computer does not recognize the network domain "ENTERPRISE" - I tried the Network ID wizard, no avail - this means I am unable to access important files across the network & also unable to access the printer.

I approached the network admin, he tried to fix my system, but he gave up because he couldn't find the exact source of the problem. Can someone help me find out what the problem could be?

I forgot to mention a few things:

1. I have Administrative access to the network myself, so I'm sure nobody can try to restrict my access to it in ay way.

2. Everything was working fine when I had Win 2000 professional. Then it suddenly crashed, so I upgraded to XP prof - that is when the error started coming up. I tried reinstalling, even downgrading back to win 2000 - but none of them helped.

I have a wierd feeling it's got to do something with the DNS server or settings, but I'm not entirely sure as to what it is.

Sorry, but the ADMINISTRATOR likely
DOES understand the problem,
more than s/he is revealing to you.

Most users are restricted to only the files they must work with, and NOT the whole network,
and this is done on the main SERVER
for each user individually.
It can not be changed at your computer station.

I'm guessing that
for some reason, the Network Administrator
has been instructed, by the department head, to permit you access to only the functions you "need" for your position.

If you want a broader access on the Network,
you need to be talking to the department head,
who will instruct the Administrator
to make the changes to your permissions
on the main SERVER computer.

How are you logging in? If the domain field has your domain listed and you can access the internet and your e-mail then your machine most certainly DOES recognize your domain. If your domain didn't recognize your computer, you would not be able to log on.

It sounds like your access has been restricted by the admin or your security department. Access to network shares is controlled by the admin and you have been blocked for whatever reason. Ask the admin, he or she can explain it all to you.

Time for a new admin.

Either:
he's entering the wrong information for the domain or doesn't have the network setup properly to begin with. Are you using Outlook or Outlook Webmail? My guess is webmail.
or
you are not setup properly as a user. He needs to double check your settings within the server. (You haven't been given permissions to access print and file resources.)
