As long as you didn't fill it more than 1/2 quart over full it won't hurt anything, except for the VW air cooled engine. You don't want to overfill those engines. They won't stand for it. It would be better to drain out the overfill. The easiest way to do this is to drop the oil filter and dump it out. Save the oil your dumping out if it's clean. You can pour it back in if needed later. This is usually on most late models about 1/2 a quart. Some of the larger filters can hold as much as a whole quart. Just after you replace the filter make sure to crank up the engine and let it run a minute or until the oil light goes out and check for leaks. Shut it off and let it sit for a minute so the oil can drain back into the oil pan and it won't give you a false reading when you check it. Check to be sure the engine is full. If not take some of the oil you just dumped out if its clean and pour it back in to fill it.

Yes, you can damage the engine if you run it with too much oil in the crankcase. With just a "little to much" the oil can actually be whipped into a foam by the crankshaft spinning above the oil in the oil pan. When the oil is in this state it cannot be picked up by the oil pump and it causes the same effect as not having enough oil which can ruin an engine.

Sure wont do it any good, something to do with the sump pressure, the engine is designed to work with a certain amout of oil.....I used to have a 911 Porsche, I was selling it so I decided to put a quart of oil in.......OMG.......porsche has a pop off somewhere in the engine/exhaust system, if the sump pressure goes up ( too much oil ) it opens a value and shoots the excess oil down the exhaust, you cannot imagine how much smoke was coming out of the back of the car....LOL......I would suggest you dont overfill

yes it will damage it ,,its better to have to little , than too much, when it comes to oil,it can ,and probably will blow all the seals out of it,and it also floods the crank shaft with a lot of oil which causes it to sling more than it should up on the cylinder walls and will cause one to smoke real heavy, but if it has too much in it you should drain some of it off ,because it can hurt it some,,good luck,i hope this help,s

Way too much oil, can overpressurize and blow seals..... not so much (but still too much) the crank can slosh in this, make it foamy (and everyone knows.... air doesn't lube too well)
A quart over is nothing to worry about..... but if its halfway the stick, then yes drain some...
basically a half inch to 3/4th of a inch over the full is nothing to go crazy over....

In part it depends upon the engine. A flat 4 like a volkswagan can really destroy the thing. Most others it is not a big problem unless you fill it up to the top and it bubbles out.

Yes, it can cause too much oil pressure, and you run the risk of breaking a seal.

You bet your sweet bibby it will.
Get a suction gun that has a hose to fit into dipstick tube, suck some out.
Don't pull the drain plug.
