1970s. With such a name it would be found everywhere a
cowboy plays music. Latest were recorded in the 70s.

Yeah. I used to play trumpet in my high school band back in the early 70's. "The Horse" was on our regular play list. It was originally done by a group called Cliff Nobles & Co back in 1968. I think it was covered by another group or two for Muzak purposes. Check out this Amazon link and scroll to the bottom of the page. You'll find an audio sample.
