In all honesty, I have never had this problem. I'm trying to imagine what it might be that is causing the over-streaking that you are describing - and the only thing I can think of is that there might be something on the mirror - like speckles of toothpaste or soap - that are being dragged around as you wipe the mirror. If this is the case, then obviously, those bits need to be removed. I recommend wiping the mirror down first with a product called "Goo Gone", which is a citrus-based grease cutter-type product, available in the WalMart hardware department (I pay about $2.99 for the small bottle). A little goes a long way. Put a small amount of this liquid on a paper towel, and wipe down the whole surface of the mirror. This will remove any type of residue that may be responsible for the streaking. After the mirror is wiped down (and dry), clean it with some ammonia (even store-brand windex is good enough) mixed with water, using either crumpled-up newspaper or a good quality, lint-free paper towel. There shouldn't be any streaking after this.

Soap residue from the air is causing the streaks. You must take lots of showers and the mirror is close to the shower. I noticed where I work that there is a soap film on the walls 6 ft.or more from the shower. I wipe down the mirror with straight vinegar than spray with warm water. Shower curtains don't seem to stop this soap residue as well as shower doors. I used this first recipe for all my commercial glass and newspaper or coffee filters. Hope this helps, try maybe keeping the bathroom fan on while showering and at least 20 mins. after.

Window Cleaner Recipe
1 spray bottle (qt or liter)
2 tbsp Ammonia
1 tbsp Vinegar
Using 1 tbsp. vinegar per 2 tbsp. ammonia.

Fill bottle with water add vinegar and ammonia. Don't mix ammonia with bleach products it's toxic.

or try this one

1 cup rubbing alcohol
1 cup water
1 tablespoon vinegar

Using isotropy alcohol and white vinegar together makes a quickly evaporating spray glass and mirror cleaner that competes with national brands. This can also be used to give a nice shine to hard tiles, chrome, and other surfaces.

If you need something really strong rub on pure lemon juice than spray with warm water and clean with coffee filter.

I like to use professional grade Windex (you can buy it at most home improvement stores like Lowe's or Home Depot) and lots of paper towels (the cheaper ones work better, they don't leave fuzz). The trick is to dry the glass completely and not to let the cleaner dry on the mirrors.

it may be cheap mirrors made of a type of plastic. there are streak free cleaners on the market and wipes. there are these neat blue paper towels used in auto shops you can buy in the car aisle at walmart or at any auto parts store they work really well on my car windows and don't leave any lent. they also are extremely absorbant so they will get rid of any moisture that may be the cause of the streaks.
