On the planet i live on violence is part of life, killing is part of life, greed is part of life, endless aqusitions of material things is part of life. Suffering through the actions of others is part of life. Fancyfull projections and intellectual arguments are part of life. The degenration in education and care is part of life. Lack of real purpose and meaning is a part of life, my question is all the above is a large part of our living, it does seem to improve in these areas in a fundamental way. I therefore can see there is a factor of deterioration. I have little time for opinions nor the abuse of of words to hinder anyone. Human living is the totality.

When you can no longer think, act and do things for yourself. I work in a care home for the elderly with mental health problems, mostly being Dementia and to see how they live each day I wouldnt want to live that way every. Most of them cant think for themselves. They dont understand when something is hot it will burn you. They dont understand that when you feel you need the toilet you should go. They dont understand that what your syaing to them and their own words are mixed up so you are unable to understand what it is they are saying. They dont understand if they just walk across a road without looking they may get run over.
All the simple things in life they dont remember. They maybe able to tell you what they did 30 years ago but they cant remember every seeing their family come and visit them. They cant remember what was said to them 5 minutes ago or what they said to you.
Each day of their life is lived for only approx 5 minutes, anything before or after that has gone and didnt happen.
I think that is the definition of deterotation and its not much of a life really

Too simple...there is more than one factor of the deterioratoin in human living and quite honestly, we live in the best of times in the USA, so there has been factors that have been improved in addition to dismissed. I would rate malnutrition as a chief decline. Americans are malnutruitioned. I don't mean they don't eat enough. They eat too much. But they eat things with no nutritional value and it affects their minds as well as their bodies. This is the reason we have so many people that cannot think well. Their brains are poisoned by the quality of the food they eat.

Mindlessness. Mortality. Greed.
Our awareness of our own mortality makes us scramble around in mindlessness, pursuing our greedy human fantasies we can mostly do without.
Time, or the limit thereof, creates immense stress when our needs are still unfulfilled. And the fact that many others are competing for the same "prizes" turns our life into one ugly rat race.

I would have liked to ask my dear friend before answering this question – what does he mean by words ‘deterioration’ and by ‘living’? For without a proper understanding of the context of his question, I have not been able to understand the meanings for this words and therefore there is a risk of too much of generalisation in answering. When for example, I considered this question and tried to answer, I needed to be sure about the precise meanings of these words, which I find to be too general to form an opinion about. The word ‘deterioration’, for example, presupposes that world is deteriorating without doubt, which is not exactly true. And if it is to be considered as true then I would like to know precisely in what way the living is deteriorating, is it spiritual, intellectual, environmental, social, political, demographical, racial, cultural, technological, or economical as all these aspects of human life are subjected to change and fluctuations in time. The fact of the matter is that there are many developmental processes causing life in general or living to improve and get better in a number of ways.
The consequence of this imprecise impression, I received, is that I taped into the age-old debate of religion and science for both influence human living. The general opinion is the religion is getting obsolete and science however instrumental in development is misleading the world into a chaotic notion of progress and human living. And then to maximise the impact of my argument, I brought the debate to the most advance and affluent part of the modern world - city dwellers in the western world (that I have erased from the original answer below). This nevertheless is the fact but there are other facts as well that we must consider while forming a definitive opinion about the matter. One important fact is that there is faith in the heart of all societies in the world. There are mosques, churches, temples, school, debates, seminars and celebrations that assert human need for the realisation of the spiritual. Faith has played an important role in formation of modern world. And however secular the things may seem, there is a tendency to celebrate religion, and this is one aspect that has never been out of sight or out of mind of both individuals and the collective.
The most deteriorating factor therefore can be our tendency to generalise too much to develop lumpy thoughts leading up to misunderstandings; further strengthening the mindsets formed by biased opinions, prejudices and ignorance. We need to look all that is relevant not just one aspect to find the facts leading up to some understanding of truth. It is not easy to from an opinion but is too easy to express the one already formed.
[The original answer]
If by human living you mean lifestyle of urban societies in the world then deteriorating factors in are numerous, not just one. The fact is that modern human mind and from it all the concepts and notions of happiness, prosperity, security and success are predominantly marked by our scientific approach to ‘the life, the universe and everything’. We started off structuring our thoughts according the principles of objective inquiry centuries ago, and the purpose was to explore and find whatever can enrich and nourish our hearts, mind and body. The soul was left out of this equation, if not entirely then very low on the shopping list of our preferences. The objective discipline that once we structure with out own hands now in turn is structuring us. The concepts of happiness, prosperity and success have to be understandable and therefore manageable to be useful by our scientific rational mind. We cannot stand uncertainty because we are attuned to the definitiveness and clarity of scientific knowledge, and thus we do find enough space for faith in this mindset. Science to us is clean, bright and right. We ignore spiritual aspect of our life if not altogether then most generally, and this to me is the main factor of deterioration.

You've asked for A factor, which means you believe that is
one answer. Is that true? If that is what you were truly asking for I'll answer in this manner: The factor of deterioration in human living is lack of relationship with fellow human beings and God.
