Do you think it is true that "you know when you know" how long should you date beforing marrying. How long did you date before marriage. I dated my husband for over two years but I don't think it was too soon. Just wondering about others.

A little over 3 years...

I don't think there is a 'time limit'...its just when it feels right. Its probably better though to be with the person atleast a year...just to really get to know them better...i mean, whats the rush?

It depends on a lot of things. For me, my emotional state made it a bad idea to decide to marry after only 4 months of dating, and to actually go through with it after only 1 year. I know of people who'd dated for 3 months and decided and they're very happy. Do you ever find your feelings dwindling, and then try to convince yourself otherwise? Have you ever had serious doubts? If so, did you resolve them or just feel relieved a while later without really coming to a concrete resolution? Don't think that these are direct guidelines for backing out, but just think about them and be rational, both mentally and emotionally. Also, listen to the advice of people around you, especially older people if you have some in your life whom you trust. That's what I'd say to someone who's wondering when the right time is. That and that one shouldn't be afraid to seek advice: it doesn't mean your marriage is doomed / will not happen to just seek wisdom from outside. In fact, it might make it stronger or at the very least help you avoid a very serious and painful mistake.

I got engaged after going out with my guy for 17 months, but we won't marry for another year or two. We are currently living together and have been since 3 months after we met. Things are fine as is, so we are in no rush, but we have discussed that anything over 2 years after the engagement and we'll rush to the altar real fast.
