Do you mean

0.012% * x = 498.90

The original value (x) = 100 %

original value = (100/(the percentage))*result

in your case = (100/0.012)*498.90=4157500.

if you mean
0.012 * x = 498.90

than original value (x) = 1

original value = (1/(percentage))*result

in your case = (1/0.012)*498.90=41575

is/of = percent/100 I know the equals sign is probalbly not the best one to use but it will do. I use is over of beacuse it helps with understanding a word problem.

is = of(percent)/100
of = is(100)/percent
percent = is(100)/of

the general formula is ,
percentage = ( result /total )*100%
so to solve ur problem,
total = (result/%)*100
ie:- total = (498.9/0.12)*100
=415750

Let percentage be y and new value is x, old value is z

So, z + 0.01*y*z = x

or z = x/(1+0.01*y)
