It's when new sales go up and the holiday shopping season starts. People get up early and wait in a line that goes down the street (usually at wal-mart) to get all the new sale iteams. It's called black friday because its a hetic day for employees of retail. Black friday comes after thanksgiving because it's officially the holiday season.

It's called "Black" Friday because it's the biggest shopping day of the year. In accounting, if you have a negative profit, it is said to be "in the red". If it's a positive profit, then it's "in the black".
Because it's such a huge shopping day, many businesses that were in the red all year may suddenly find themselves "in the black" the day after Thanksgiving....hence the name.

It is the day that alot of retailers go from being in the red, not making a profit, to being in the black, making a profit. In the black is kind of an accounting term used to show a business is profitable. So the call it Black Friday.

It is the biggest shopping day of the year. In accounting terms, think of red ink and black ink. Red, you're in the hole; black means you're making a profit.
