Kitchens seem to increase the value the most. Bathrooms run a close second. Third would be landscaping and curb appeal.

Stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and stone tile flooring in the kitchen are the most requested improvements on television. I would imagine they are the hottest improvements in today's market.

This information comes from several shows on HGTV, TLC and the like. I love these shows and find them quite helpful!

A fresh coat of paint can give you the most bang for your buck.

As mentioned kitchens and bathrooms can also add good value to your house(but the expense can quickly get out of hand)

Kitchen, follwed by bathroom. Swimming pools aren't a great selling point sometimes. Say the prospective buyers love the house and then see there's a pool and either they don't want the hassle of taking care of it or they don't swim. Plus the insurance is sky high if you add a pool.
