In the South...everyone calls everyone baby. So, yes it would be OK. I find it extremely warm and inviting for someone to refer to me as baby....as would my mother. And father.

I think white people see black peoples behavior on this issue as such....if you think so little of the word, you must think so little of yourselves to use it with each other. If the word is so negative, don't use it at all. I don't call my friends c*nts. And I don't want anyone to call me that. If you don't like the word, you can't pick and choose when it is OK. It is, or it isn't. Set an example.

Freedom of speech is a good place to start! I have the right to say what I want. If you have the freedom to say it so does every other person in this country. You do not get to have a special license to speak how you want because of the color of your skin. If you object to people saying it, then quit using the term yourself, because you are probably offending someone else!

I am sick of everyone thinking that race and skin tone means that you get special privileges. If you are American then that is it!

Oh and for the record, I am not "white".

100% right nottashys. I am not racist in the least, but will use the word on occasion. If you fit a stereotype to a "T", and most dont, expect to be called by that stereotype. Or if you dont fit the stereotype but label yourself as such anyway. But I (unfortunately) reside in the midwest so I am much more likely to call someone trailer trash because there's alot of those skanks around here.

There is nothing cool about that word when it is applied to another human being.

It is a hurtful term used to diminish, separate and alienate people from each other.

There are so many ways societies seek to divide themselves and to oppress others through culture and politics. Language is another powerful weapon of racism and we should remain alert and aware when it becomes present.

Well my moms dead so you can call her whatever you want. I'll use the term if it is not ment in a hateful manner, My black friends don't mind and I don't mind if they call me cracker or honkey. It is a two way street.

Why must you get so worked up about one stupid word? You don't see us complaining when you call us "crackers", do you? Why, you ask? It's because it's just A WORD, a string of sounds with no meaning other than what we give it.
