I just got diagnosed with Diabetes Type 1, I don't whine or complain or "why me" EVER. But one night I really wanted some of the chicken everybody else got to eat, but i could'nt have any so i just drank some water. My mom sits next to me stuffing her face and I start to get really pissed that she's got no consideration, knowing that I love chicken, and I say "I wish I could just what I want whenever I want and how much I want". She make this empathetic face and says "I wish I could eat and not get fat like your father". WTF is that? She tries to compare herself to me and whines about something she can prevent. Should I just shut up and get over it or should she watch what she says?

I have type 1 not type 2. type 2 is the one you get because you are overweight, type 1 is when your pancreas just stops working for no reason.

Better study diabetes. Type II can be hereditary, I have it. No one in my family is overweight. Yes overweight will cause it.
Chicken does not cause it. Remove the skin, broil it. Don't leave the skin on and deep fry it. Take some classes by a licensed dietician, learn what you can and cannot eat.
Yes just get over it.

If its really bothering you maybe you should say something about it, or try to eat at a different time on the days when it is really tempting food.
But then again, it is along the same lines as when you quit smoking, you know eventually you will have to deal with temptation and you cant exactly get mad a perfect strangers who happen to smoke!

Sheeeesh if i were in your position I would hope that my family would be a little more sympathetic. I think you have every right to be pissed. A friend of mine is diabetic and her roomate used to come home with all kinds of crazy desserts that she couldn't eat, and when my friend finally pointed it out to her that it wasn't a cool thing to do, her roomate just said "oh i didn't think about that" DUH. I don't think your mom should be comparing weight gain to diabetes either... not cool!

Look, never mind about what you mother says. You have other things to concern about mainly the diabetes! You should plan what you eat and do some moderate exercise............
