It's all about perspective.

If you ask those kids, they will say it is a shame that your childhood had never known how much fun it was to grow up with Xbox or Playstation, just as your parents would likely say that your generation will never know how much fun life was without television altogether.

One is no better than the other. It is all a matter of when you happened to grow up. Everyone thinks that the time THEY were a child was the best time to grow up, and anyone who came before or after are sad because they could not have the same experience.

You are so right! I remember running around all day long. Then my Mother and her friends would sit on the front porch at night and we kids would still run around. But ya know, after visiting the old neighborhood not too long ago, I see that this is no longer possible for the kids today. It's just simply not safe for the kids to be out there on the streets. It's so sad. But there is much gang violence, especially where I grew up (Boston). If I had children, I would drive them to a park or somewhere that they could run around. The streets of their home are just not a good place to be now. (Sorry if my answers too long). But this is a very good question.

The world is a different place than it used to be, in order to keep our children safe we need to know where they are every minute. It is very sad that this restricts their freedom, but it seems that nowadays Mrs. Meanie has a gun by her door. My kids do not leave the house without a destination. Walking around and just hanging out isn't an option. They do lose a lot of experiences and adventure this way, but I know that they are safe.

Yes, that's too true. When I was a child we ran loose on our bicycles and stayed out until dark in the summers, caught lighting bugs then dumped them out, played kickball at the neighbor's down the street and other fun things children miss out on this day and time. It's TV, video games, and Internet that has children so obese - we ate everything but we ran it all off playing. Sad but true....

i agree. we never stayed inside when we were little. we ran around the yard, rode bikes, walked to friends' to see if they could come OUT and play, visited the old lady on the corner who was lonely and loved company. like right now i am sitting outside with my laptop. today kids look so anemic. parents seem to be the ones who dont let/make the kids go outside and get some sun! it really is sad. they'll never know the joy of catching earthworms and tadpoles...

I agree. Kids today do not play outdoors like my generation did. When I was growing up , we were always outside playing games (when little, cowboys and indians, etc.) like softball, baseball, touch football or fishing or just hanging out together. It is sad that kids don't do things like that anymore.

Ain't it the truth. Makes me sick to hear my grand kids say that there's nothing to do that they are bored. And they are fat too and get mad when you tell them that.
