Assuming you have central heating then yes!
We washed all the carpets of our house in August, with a machine we rented from Wickes. It took an amazing amount of dirt out. It took about 24 hours to dry, but my wife went fairly crazy with the amount of water she sprayed on. The guy who rented it explained that the vaccum cleaner picks up about 70% of the water you spray on - which also means it will leave some of the shampoo behind.
So: we just bought the house and it really needed it, but if you do it very often it will damage the carpet. Steam cleaning kills bacteria, etc but since it doesn't have a vacuum it won't pick up as much (you have to pick it up with the damp cloth attached to the steamer). So depends on the problem you are trying to solve

drying time depends on a lot of things, mostly the machine you use. I use big fans strategically placed and moved often.

The dryer your carpets are right after shampooing the longer they will stay clean and the longer they will last all together. Spot cleaning as you go along is always better than the big job.

the final element I surely have got here upon is clorox 2 it cleans each and every thing that a gadget cant get to, i take advantage of it on my furniture and likewise on my vehicle carpet in my vehicle, i mixed it with little or no water and scrub the stain with a fabric, then blot it dry, tada,it leaves a great sparkling scent too!!

cleaning a carpet without an expert advice won't be a great idea. but if u r interested then do look for washing instructions at back that will be a great help.

Surely it depends on the temperature in the house and not the weather outside.

If you have central heating and you have it on it should be totally dry in a couple of days.

We just had ours done professionally and they said it is usable immediately but it was still slightly damp for a couple of days.
