none of the above. he's 12!
he doesn't need a computer yet, & by the time he will the computer will be only slightly more than a paper weight. and, he certainly doesn't need a game system. get him outside, damn. plus, it will only hurt his studies. (trust me. i should have gone to the USAFA.)
i'm tired of people spending money on pointless things. 'just cuz' you have the money doesn't mean you have to spend it. money grows fast. save it and spend it on something nicer later.

If he will be playing online, go with the Xbox. Sure PS3 online is free, but that's because less people want to play on it. Xbox has a much larger online gaming community; More people prefer to PAY for Xbox online, than there are who play PS3 for free... GTA is fun, but personally, I think it is too mature for a 13 year old. He would probably enjoy Forza 4, which just came out, it's the most realistic racing game out there. It is racing only, however. And the Logitech G27 is only compatible with PC, PS2, and PS3, and is not compatible with GTA IV. So, I would prefer the Xbox, but if he really really wants the Logitech wheel, I would get him the PS3 with the Logitech wheel, and Forza 4. GTA is also on the PS3, but he won't be able to use the wheel with it.

My little one isn't that old but my advice is, and I hope I can follow it when the time comes, is to not buy any of the above. He will appreciate it more if he has to work towards it. Have him work it off doing house chores, and then get it. I know it's tough in this day and age, but having some restraint is going to be good in the long run. You're not going to buy him a BMW when he starts driving, right? Better to not give him EVERYTHING, and let him learn some more values. I know, the I want I want I want stuff, and it is tough to say no.
Good luck, and have a Happy Christmas!

I believe the new nintendo wii would be the best way to go. It is fun for all ages and just a nice system and not to pricey either. Laptop he might want also because soon he will be in high school and want to talk to his friends over the internet, but that can wait until he is there, so Nintendo Wii is the way to go.

if he already has game cube then buy the wii the game cube games are compatible with it. also you can download other nintendo games onto it.(read instructions on nintendo .com) It has a motion detector on the hand controller that makes the person using it have to stand up and physically move to play. It also comes with wii sports Bowling, tennis, baseball, boxing, If you go this rout good luck finding one before christmas they are very limited in the stores, start phoning around now to see who will have them .

Definitely go with the laptop.. There are endless things you can do with a laptop then any game system. Play games, Music, Watch movies, Surf the internet, Get Homework done, It's portable, and he can burn cds or movies on dvd, etc... Sounds like a laptop would be the best bet.

If you want him to go around and show off with friends go for a PSP absolutely! It's great to play with, he can also listen to mp3s and watch movies on it!
If to use at home a pc is more usefull since he could use it for school too but it's quite hard to play games with.
If to choose a home consolle then go for a WII! Really a great piece!

Not a laptop! That is too big and bulky! PSP is great! He can take it on trips! 360's are great too. Or just bring it up in a convorsation like "I hear Wii is cool, what do you think?" If you bring them up in different convos different times, he won't catch on!
Good Luck!

He will probably love the PSP because its a portable play station and it plays movies. If you don't want to than I'd give him the nintendo wii.
