A job search is very stressful, and it can be hard to resist getting very down on yourself and your future. And, you are right, it doesn't help you land a job to feel defeated before you start.

But, almost everyone has been in your shoes (or will be at least once in their career), feeling the way you feel. They survived, and so will you!

Join a job search support group. People exchange leads and ideas, and there is usually a leader who is also a job coach. Most of the time, the cost to attend is minimal. Often you'll find one in a local church (usually belonging to the church is not a requirement).

There are "real" ones where people meet in person, locally, and there are "online" ones you connect to via the Internet.

For the real support group, in the U.S., you would contact your local state Employment Office - http://www.job-hunt.org/state_unemployment_offices.shtml I'm not sure what you do in the UK, but I'm sure that the government provides some sort of job search assistance and support there, too, probably better than in the US.

For online support groups, check out http://groups.yahoo.com

Join a group, and you'll feel much better, even just knowing you're not the only one who is discouraged.

Good luck!

You can find a job, the only problem is it won't be the job you want. Almost everyone I know has either been fired, laid off, or quit - so your not the only one.

Get a job to get a job. Who cares what it is, the less time your at a job not making money, the more in debt you become. Then when you have your "not so good job" you can focus on getting a job you really want.

You don't have to put your " not so good job" on a resume either. Sometimes it sucks taking a step backward, but at least you will be moving forward.

It all comes down to pride, can you deal with not doing what you want for a short time.

Good luck dude.

Hi ya, My boyfriend has just found a job after being out of work for nearly 10 weeks and I was supporting him, it can be stressfull for you or if you have a partner for them too, because i was paying all the bills when my partner was out of work. There are loads of jobs around at the moment especially now as xmas is coming, you just have to have confidence, also my partner is 31 too, so age doesn't matter. If you feel unhappy then when you go for an interview the interviewee can see that, so just relax and believe in yourself, then anything can happen.

Why can't you find a job? Unemployment is at a very low level, so there are way more jobs waiting to be filled than there are applicants. Almost anyone can find a job right now, unless they are "unemployable" due to some special reasons. Do you have a history of job jumping? Have you been in jail or prison for any reason? Are you showing up for interviews on time and cleaned up so that you look presentable? Is your hair excessively long, dirty, or messy? Do you need to shave, shower, use deodorant? Visit the place where you wish to work and observe how other workers are dressed. Show up for your interview dressed for the job you are seeking. In fact, dress just slightly better than the job you are trying to obtain. It'll only make you look better. Don't forget to brush your teeth before you go, and don't smoke prior to your interview. Many employers don't like smokers and won't hire people who smoke or smell like smoke. It may seem unfair, but employers have figured out that smokers tend to have more sicknesses and miss more work days. They also cost their health insurance plans more money due to additional respiratory illnesses, lung cancer, emphysema, etc. Even if you smoke, try not to smoke all day before you. In fact, quit smoking period. It'll save you money and you will be more healthy besides.
