Try the easy stuff first: Is there a loudspeaker or other magnet been placed near the screen ?
or just try wiggling the sockets/plugs on the cable from the PC to the monitor, could just be a dirty/loose connection

Often this is a sign that the video connector is loose or otherwise not properly connecting. Sometimes a bent pin on the vga connector can be the cause, you can usually straighten them by prying the pin up with a small flat blade screwdriver until you can grab it with a small pair of needlenose pliers to straighten the pin.

Is it colours around the screen - the whole screen turned pink? Colouring around the edges is casued by people applying pressure to the screen i.e touching it.

The whole screen could be a computer error - or maybe your resolution and colour settings are wrong, lower then by using the control panel.

it could be a virus but unlikely...

Mine did that for about a week. It only happened when i played this one game. It is NOT a virus, i just switched out the monitor and borrowed a friends and about a month later it was fine and it has never done it sense.

check the cable by twisting it a little bit close to the connectors.
also check the mainboard of the monitor, by hitting with a finger the controls (if monitor is a traditional tube) or hitting the lower part of the screen (if it is a LCD one). Check and be lucky!, otherwise you'll need service (LCD) or to replace it (Tube).

It sounds like your monitor is going out. I would just buy a new one at buy.com and use the google checkout and get $20 off any purchase over $50.

it is the connectors, some monitors have a vga cable the can be removed from both ends, remove the cable from both ends and try it again, if that doesn't work get another cable.
