how to sing & play guitar @ the same time?

Question

i can play guitar. i can sing. and i'm in a band because of that. but i can't do both. i dunno, but i mess up on one of em whenver i try. do i just need to know what i'm doing really well? i mean, cause whenever i try, i either slurr the lyrics, or slip up on guitar. what do i need to do?

oh, and i taught myself both. i never had a teacher.

Maybe try learning the song on the guitar first and once you are pretty sure you have all the cords correct, then maybe you could start with the words and you won't slur the lyrics because you are trying to concentrate on the cords cause you now know them off by heart. Good Luck!

Same problem Get another guitar player get a rhythm guitar and you can play lead or if you already have another guitar player in the band get another. And you can Just sing Good guitar players aren't hard to come by good bassists and singers are so if you can sing good just do that. I can play guitar better than I can sing so you can guess which one I picked :)

Practice. You've taught yourself both, now teach them to deal with each other. You learn things better by learning them yourself, as you well know. Just get that nose back to the grindstone and work it out.

The only thing you can do is practice. Get yourself a metronome, and go over the tunes at home, trying to do it. Do it again, and again, and again, until your throat is raw and your fingers bleed. Do it day after day, til you're able.

There's no shortcuts. Just hard work. :-)

yea,
me too.
but i'm a vocalist and a tombouriner.
our brain can't do 2 things at once.
but we must suit ourself by do it always,practise more.
so 2 become once..

take it slowly, practise signing and playing a slow song once u get the hang of it increase the tempo of the song.....
