You do know that clownfish are saltwater fish right? And you do know that keeping a saltwater tank isn't easy or cheap, the smaller the tank the harder too. If you can't even buy a lid for the tank then I suggest you stick to fresh water fish. I would still get something to cover the tank so the fish don't jump out and so nothing falls in.

I don't know much about clownfish care, but I would think a lid would be good to have, especially if you have cats or anything that could fall into the tank. Those lids can be sorta pricey, I'm not sure why, I mean, it's a lid not a Porshe. You could try making a lid for the tank yourself or getting one from Ebay. Good luck =)

Depends on if you are talking a lid as in glass cover or hood as in what holds the light.

You do need a lid, it keeps evaporation down and stuff from falling in and fish from jumping out.

You don't need an expensive hood. We have done quite well with just using under the cabinet type flourescent fixtures.

When we had an aquarium, my dad made a lid/ hood out of wood and stuck the flourescent lamp there. If you don't want to spend, I suggest you could make your own or find a cheaper lid...

I wouldn't bother.. fish are a dime a dozen. They die for a million reasons and others live forever even if you don't feed them for 6 months. You might like the extra humidity.
