At our last WI meeting we were asked to donate knitted squares for blankets for the Tumaini Fund. This was started by Guernsey doctor, Sue Wilson, for AIDS widows and orphans in northwest Tanzania. I haven't got the details to hand but you can contact Dr. Wilson by e-mail mfukowatumaini@yahoo.co.uk

Oxfam are always in need of blankets which should be 4 foot x 6 foot. These can be made up of 6 inch squares or twelve 6 inch wide strips. I usually do the strips as it is less sewing and I can sit and knit while watching a film or talk without needing to count rows or measure. The blankets are very useful as apart from keeping people warm during cold nights they can be used as sunshades during the day or for carrying things.

Why don't you sew them together after the squares have been knitted and deliver them at the local hospitals, care homes or refuges.
