Yes, it probably will be a major force again someday. We historians have a quote we live by: "The only thing we learn from History is that we don't learn anything from History." Ideologies like communism never die because people forget what happened before them. There are still people who believe in it as the way to stop world strife. They often claim that Soviet communism just wasn't "done right" or that it has to be tried worldwide to be successful (communism can't survive copmetition which should make one wonder if it is a viable system to begin with). Every ideology has its true believers and someday, communists will get an upper hand in some unfortunate nation where they'll wreck havoc for a couple of generations before being tossed aside again.

Communism has been a bad word in free world society for a long time. We have been taught that it is a bad thing for people and we can't tolerate it. However, it's meaning is more far reaching than the masses of North America have been led to believe.
If perfected, I don't think people of communist rule or way of life would have that much to complain about. It's foundation is socialistic but to start a socialist society you need a dictator or fascist operated government to get it off the ground. Therein lies the problem, those kinds of governments or rulers don't work well with their people or the rest of the world.
Communism is a dying order but dictatorships are not. When governments imprison or kill the opposition there will always be an underlying current of dissent. You can still find examples of Marxist and Stalinist rule in some areas South and Central South America.

I wouldn't call Russia a third world country, any more than China is a third world country. Communism under Joseph Stalin, no, never again. Communism upgraded to today's societies, yes, absolutely. It's working now and not in the third world.

China is a Communist country.
Here the deal on the term "third world"...
From Wikipedia article it appears that the original meaning of the term "third world" is synonomous with "wannabe".
Later...it became synonym for countries that aligned themselves with neither East or West(East being Soviet Bloc countries).
quote from article
"Today, however, the term is frequently used to denote nations with a low UN Human Development Index (HDI), independent of their political status (meaning that the PRC, Russia and Cuba, all of which were very strongly aligned during the Cold War, are often termed third world). However, there is no objective definition of Third World or "Third World country" and the use of the term remains common. The term Third World is also disliked as it may imply the false notion that those countries are not a part of the global economic system. Some in academia see it as being out of date, colonialist, othering and inaccurate; its use has continued, however. [1] In general, Third World countries are not as industrialized or technologically advanced as OECD countries, and therefore in academia, the more politically correct term to use is "developing nation"."

UN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX

This link has maps
and for all you brainiacs out there it even has mathematical formula
That UN uses to determine a countries level of developement
quote from above link
"Development Index (HDI) is a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education, and standards of living for countries worldwide. It is a standard means of measuring well-being, especially child welfare. It is used to distinguish whether the country is a developed, developing, or under developed country, and also to measure the impact of economic policies on quality of life"

Yes.
S. America is quickly going in this direction and they're hooking up with some threatening forces (Iran).
Unfortunately, I think a major portion of our population accepts the underlying morality of communism.

Absolutely they will come back. it's like having cockroaches in your house and leaving a few because they won't cause any more trouble. The success they are having will keep growing over the next twenty years.

No, a pure Communist country/society is impossible. Right now communism is not the issue, it is militaristic theocracies like Iran. They are ruthless and will do whatever it takes.
