Hot Dogs - The Varsity - An Atlanta tradition
Pizza - Mellow Mushroom - Several Locations
Southern Cooking - Mary Mack's Teahouse, Downtown
BBQ - Fat Matt's - Morningside
Chinese - Golden Buddha, Decatur
Seafood - The Seafood Factory, Buckhead

Thai food most definitely is Nan, in Midtown. That is the best place to eat in ATL.
Burgers - Varsity is OK, but Ted's Montana Grill has tastier Buffalo Burgers.
Italian: I have not found a good italian resturaunt, and would not count Maggianos, however it is better than going to Olive Garden or similiar chain places.
Sadly, most resturaunts in Atlanta aren't all that great.

for the best Italian food go to tratoria strada on Roswell rd is not chain is family owned i go there all the time for Italian and all my Friends Love it give it a shot there not many Italian restaurant in Atlanta that good
