I believe that a shirt & tie will help improve your general attitude. That will - in turn - generate respect and friendliness.

I wear a suit when I fly for two reasons.
1. I don't have to figure out how to pack my suit
2. I find it commands more respect from ticket agents, flight attendants, etc.

However, just wearing a suit doesn't keep respect. The shirt & tie may command respect at the first impression, but in order to keep that respect, you must be respectful.

I also feel that people wearing a shirt & tie tend to act more professional. Its a general attitude.

People are shallow and tend to treat others based on first impressions. A shirt and tie might get you a little more respect initially provided your character and behaviour is matchingly conservative.
Depending on the situation a shirt and tie might seem out of place. Don't wear a shirt and tie unless you are comfortable that way, and the situation calls for it.

Even without wearing a tie (or a suit), You can earn that respect...
At the same time.. even after wearing them, You might not...
