A cutler is the name given to the profession of making, and sharpening knives but often includes folks & spoons and other hand made instruments.

There are only a very few real old fashion cutlers left in the UK, and most of those are located in Sheffield. Sheffield has a VERY long history of cutlers and knife makers.

**I guess when we talk of cutlers its referring more to the hand making or hand fashioning of knives i.e. like pen knives not so much machine made knives.
