A grandmother has blown-up herself in 'honor' of Hamas. What the heck is wrong with people like that ? It never accomplishes anything, but pain, suffering, and death.
What 'blocks' their minds from understanding this useless act ?

When your complete world is dictated by one book. When that book becomes your only source of cultural and social information. Then, you can strap a bomb to your body knowing that you complied with that books teachings.
I have a feeling that anyone denied education about life, did not hear a simple nursery rhyme, was not able to read or hear about books by great authors are, deprived of some basic logical thought! These kind of people really don't know what they're actions are doing to society.
They simply believe a verse(s) in one book that mentions living by the sword and that, infidels are less than human.
The belief is then supported by equally ignorant men called clerics who interpret those verses into death.
Your answer: Education and common sense values which are not a part of their culture. The one book that they live by is being interpreted in a vicious way. It will take generations for that to change.

Interesting way of phrasing it, but I get what you mean.
These people are sadly brainwashed. Blowing yourself up, no matter what religion you believe in, goes against every religion. Ask a Muslim, they'll tell you that no where in their religion does it say that you should strap an IED to your chest, go into a shopping district, and set the bomb off.
There are fundamental differences between religions, but most of them require that you praise God and do good things (be a good person.) Some even ask you to try and convert people, which you can't do if you're dead.
They aren't blowing themselves up in the name of their religion, they're doing it in the name of the monetary equivalent to $10,000 US dollars their family receives upon detonation.

I don't know what's on the mind of the one who made the bomb, but that is just the most effective and efficient way to set-off the bomb on target. They don't have to build a war jets or tanks, which also sometimes cost the life of the pilot and yet the goals are the same.

Yes, most of them have. Your misconception has to do with what do you think they want. They don't want to "live free or die" in fact they don't want to live at all. Their goal is for someone else to die, if they can accomplish that by blowing themselves up then they have achieved their goal.
You're making a serious mistake if you think you can reason with that type of thinking. The only solution is to kill them first.

Yep. I blew myself up over at the Walmart the other day 'cause they wouldn't take back a broken bananna I bought from them a couple months ago. After I did that they gave me a new bananna. :o)
