Personally I would say the former... that he was securing their approval.
How do you know this to be the case?
It may be someone out to cause mischief, or has your partner confessed?
You must feel hurt and betrayed! But trust me, it's better than if he was two-timing you... at least you can sort this out..

That sort of undermining behavior really needs to be addressed head-on. Yes he is a coward and what's worse, your loving partner is a traitor. He may be wanting out, but I'd suggest counseling for you both.

Yes he is a coward and a sneaky one at that. Any man worth his salt would defend his woman against all detractors. He probably wants out of the relationship but is too much of a coward to come straight out and say it. The hell with him e-mail me and we will get together and give the jerk a reason to bail out.

he has some unresolved issues he has not been able to talk about, causing him to feel resentful. he is a coward who can't speak up, who won't speak up, he fears what speaking up would do. families are very deceitful, and can cause the marriage to crumble. need to talk to your partner about all this, seek counciling, ask him why he is feeling the way he is. he also could be wanting to leave the relationship.

No, he's not a coward but it sounds like there's a lot of manipulation from his side of the family, so he's a bit whipped it seems! If he's not prepared to stick up for you, I would be a teeny, weeny bit annoyed!

People talk sh*t all the time....It's human nature....
It just sucks when you find out about it.... In which case he needs to come clean with you. He's probably just talking like that cause that's how his family relates to people and problems.
Confront him and tell him the gigs up. He can't use you for his family conversations anymore...
Give him a chance....Men are stupid sometimes...Remember that!
Good luck!

Somebody that truely loved you wouldnt do this even if it meant disapproval from their family. i would be very hurt by this and to be quite honest i dont think i could forgive it especailly after 20 years or a relationship.

it does sound like he is being a coward,u say his family dont like u anyway and he is obviously slaging u off 2 them 2 keep them happy. he needs to stand up and be a man and tell them to mind their own buisness and accept that he a grown man and loves u. i think he does love u but is taking the easy option, tell him to cut the apron strings!

Yeah, he is the biggest coward ever. lf he can't defend you to his own family, do you think he would do it if strangers are invovlved. I feel bad that you wasted 20 years of your life on this guy.
