My sister in law went to the famil court in New Rochelle and said that my husband and I were forcing our daughter to learn the Ten Commandents, and that we were homeless, which at the time we were paying $ 1,500 a month in rent.

Two possible reasons not knowing any more details.

1) A court found you incompetent as a parent and has awarded custody of your daughter to your sister-in-law. In this case, get your life back together and then appeal. Part of getting your life back together is paying your child support on time and putting your daughters needs above yours. When you can consistently prove you can do that, I'm sure you can get your daughter back.

2) A complete travesty of justice. In this case, call the local media, hire a good attorney and keep the pressure on every public outlet you can think of until you get her back.

I suspect it is more than likely the first one.

Whoa! Can you give us some details first? Obviously, this sounds very bad, but by giving some details, there may be loopholes which you can use.

[UPDATED INFO] Okay, you'll have to prove to the court that you are paying rent, so obviously you have a place to live. Being able to prove this by contacting your landlord/managing company for a statement (or you might be able to simply take the agent to your house) would probably be wise.

Also, last time I checked, teaching your child about religion is NOT against the law, so if Child Services are using that as an excuse, it's complete bull.
