I'm better with the written as well, because I can edit ;)
I don't like talking on the phone because I don't really like the sound of my voice, and because the phone always makes me feel tied down in a way I really dont' like.
Talking in person is hard, it's something I've struggled with all my life. I really enjoy being able to IM and email my friends and find new and creative ways to communicate that way :)

Here is a problem. E-Mails if written coherently are a good form of communicating. IM's can also. However: The aforementioned methods can have misleading results. If the person with whom you are communicating with does not know you well and you don't know them well, you may arrive at incorrect assumptions as to their meaning.
We all have said something in an IM that was misinterpreted, and this is frustrating and can really upset someone. The same can be said of e-Mails.
It is always best to speak directly with a person on a phone, you can hear there tone of voice and comprehend much more.

toss between writing (handwritten preferred over email but take what i can get) and in person. as you i sometimes run ahead in talking but i also have done that in writing. am told by my friends that my letters sometimes resemble a maze. they say that my talking in person at times does that also. truthfully i just like communication in whatever form it takes. don't think people keep in touch enough. there was a poem (i think by mckuen) that said " we've learned so much, except how to keep in touch". my problem with communication is when not the right time. i don't care to be around people and they spend the whole time either on cell phone or texting. why not talk with the people you are with (i am not talking about calling to make arrangements, just gabbing)

In order of . . . in person, writing, texting. You wrote that you find talking in person is great yet sometimes hard. I'm 40 + age (how much + ?...no matter). I wonder, and at times get concerned, that with t.v., video/dvd movies, internet, texting, cell phones etc. that people are losing the natural ability to communicate personally one on one with another. To speak personally one on one fluidly and in length as apposed to quick texting / typing...wonder if our society will grow to the point where in person relating will be clumsy and uncomfortable. I think not...yet I wonder.

I prefer talking in person but I used to love to write. Wow this makes me think I should get back into the habit of writing again.

I prefer talking to someone in person because I can see into their eyes but if I am unable to see them face to face then I will settle for using the phone.

i could not stand texting at first i was frustrated by it ...now im totally addicted i like that you can choose your words carefully and answer at leisure and also so easy to drop a line to friend to let them know your plans or that your thinkin of them without actually getting sucked in to a 30 min conversation
