I have just installed xp on a p4 with a flatscreen ( i have done this 20 before and not ahd a problem) but the icons are huge and i can't change the screen res, it simply won't let me move the little bar. also n the 'monitor' tab i can't change the properties. any suggestions before i put my fist through the screen???? thanking yo in advance!

Agreed. Install your graphics card drivers. Sounds like you are only using the basic VGA xp drivers hence all options in properties will be greyed out.
Right click on my computer on your desktop, then properties, then hardware tab ->device manager->Display adapters.
1)If it does not show your graphics card here then install it and all drivers.
or..
2)If it shows your graphics card and a yellow question mark install the drivers. (if a red cross then it is disabled and you need to enable it. Right click->enable)
or...
3)If it shows your graphics card and says that everything is working ok but you still cant access the properties uninstall it and reboot.
if you are using an NVidia based card you can use driver cleaner to get rid of any loose files then do a complete re-install

Just below the bar where you adjust the resolution, there is a Troubleshoot box, click on that, I think there is a function there for your problem.

Have you installed your graphics card. If so you may find you need to update your drivers

One of two things....

Your graphics card is rubbish (10 years old).

OR

You haven't installed your graphics drivers.
