i have a few rust spots on the surface of my car (series 1 rs turbo) and around these spots its stained, there isnt rust where its stained it just looks like its turned the paint brown.

Is there anyway of remving the stains to make it look a bit better?

If the stain is on the surface, try some polishing compound. This is similar to rubbing compound, but has a much finer abrasive.

Place a small amount of polishing compound on a soft cloth and rub until the stain disappears. Be careful working around panel edges and body lines as the paint is usually thinner in these areas and you can rub through. If required, put masking tape over these areas to protect them.

Apply a coat of wax to the area.

If the stain is originating from a defect in the metal (rust), you will need to remove the rust and repaint the panels. If you only paint over the rust, the stain will reappear in a short time.

I have read that Coca cola is meant to be a really good thing for getting rid of rust... So you may as well give it a go.. It is cheap, and if it doesn't work then you can drink what is left in the bottle!

try cif, its not abrassive so wont riun your paint work etc. works for me
