Ok, here's the deal. Most people are just gonna give you their opinion on what they think rocks. But here's the real deal.
PS3 is for the intense gamehead, not the occasional stress reliever. It has the best technology and will give you the most bang for your buck.
XBOX is a middle of the road console. Graphics are ok, but leave something to be desired. Games pretty much mimic PS except for a few slight differences here and there. Plus it's made by Microsoft, and that should tell you something right there. If you own a PC then you knwo what I'm talking about.
Those are the two conglomerates. But it seems that you'd be interested in a Gamecube more than anything. I understand about the Sega and Atari, I have all my old consoles and still love to play them. Gamecube has some action flicks, but mostly stciks to its roots and what made Nintendo what it is today. With that being said, if you wanna jump a little further into technology you should probably get a Wii. It's not as expensive as the other two, plays all the games you like and want, plus you can download old Sega, SNES, and NES titles to play along with it.
Ain't life grand?

Listen up, you can still play those systems. Just because they are old, doesn't mean they dont work. Trust me this is an internet world, and if you hold on to sega 2 or an atari, and then decide to get rid of it, u can get some nice cash for them.
if you like the disney games, then it doesnt really matter what type of system u have. You can find the games u want to play, but that shouldnt be the only reason why u should buy a system.
here are some choices that will help u in your crusade
nintendo gamecube
nintendo 64(older, less games then the gamecube)
PSP(handheld, but more action type games)
look around and make a list of games u like, and then narrow it down. for you it will be a hard decision, but u can at least figure out which would be best.

It sounds like you're into games that are fun but not too complicated. For that, I'd get a Nintendo Wii or xbox 360. PS3 is more money than most people want to spend, and the controls are harder. The nintendo wii can download online games that are from the systems from back then, and the xbox 360 can do some simple games. I'd get a wii because it's cheaper and there's alot less buttons, but it's still just as competitive.

Uh, the PS2 has thousands of games, not all of them are RPGs. In addition, some are collections of old games like the Sega Genesis Collection which has around 30 old games.

You should try before you buy. It all comes down to games in the end though, and X-box and playstation have the market share.
