My son is 9 and currently has Game Cube, he has asked for an xbox for Christmas. We currently have someone offering a used xbox system with one controller and one wireless controller and 12 games for $350.00 canadian dollars. Does anyone have input on the asking price? I know very little about the xbox system, my son is interested in xbox due to the larger variety of games as well he said the game cube games are mostly for little kids.....hmm, funny last time I checked nine was still a little kid!?!
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

That sounds like a great price the games are expensive. Chek out the link below. The games average $30 each

May I make a suggestion? Why not get your son the Wii or the XBOX 360 since they have so much more upside than the XBX.

Why choose the 360 over the XBX:

1. MS has stopped making XBOXes, and soon, companies are going to stop making games for the XBX. Companies are gearing for the next generation of consoles, so new games for the last gen (XBX, GC, PS2) consoles are slowly dwindling.

2. The 360 is only 399.99 in US dollars, and if you're willing to pay 350 Canadian dollars, why not pay that extra 50 bucks or so and get the 360. You'll have to spend more money to get another controller and games, but it's not a bad thing if you can afford it.

3. For the most part, XBX games can be played on the 360. Go here for a list of backward compatible games:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm

More XBX games will be added to the list sporadically.

Why the Wii over XBX:

1. The Wii is catered more towards the younger kids. That's Nintendo's target, but it doesn't mean they don't aim for adults. There are more kid friendly games on the Wii. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is a good game that's aimed toward kids and adults, and I think your son will enjoy the game. I have the game, and I'm an adult.

2. You can play all GC games on the Wii, so you can trade in your GC to help pay for the Wii or the 360, if you like.

3. It's the cheapest of the 3 new consoles. It's only 249.99 US dollars. Games for the Wii will also be cheaper than games for the PS3 and 360 (49.99 vs 59.99 US dollars).

OK. Now if you don't like any of the new consoles and still insist on getting an XBX:

Overall, I don't think it's a great deal and I don't think it's a bad deal, but I learn toward the bad deal side because I think 350 is a little bit on the high end. A new XBX is only $129.99 US and it comes with a controller. You can get a new wireless controller for $19.99 US. So, that's about $150 US. Used games are not worth that much, especially the sports games. A used Madden 06 is only about $5 US.

If you give a list of games, we can get a better understanding of how much it's worth.

I hope you didn't tell the seller that you know very little about the XBX because if you did, he's probably taking advantage of you.

Also, are you sure your son don't mean a 360? I would ask him to make sure that it's an XBX that he wants and not a 360. Big difference between the 2.

Just a note regarding the 2nd poster: Those games are new, and he's selling used games.

I'll keep an eye out on your question and if you provide more info, I'll give you more input.

Are you talking about an XBox (2001) or an XBox360 (2005)? Big difference in terms of price, and potentially, your son's expectations.

CAN$350 for a system and 12 games sounds like an old XBox. An old Xbox will cost you around US$100. A new XBox360 is closer to US$400. And that's without any games, which sell for between $10-$40 new.

So, regarding the deal, $350 for an old XBox and 12 games is a fair deal. For a new XBox360, it's an impossible deal, and you'd be getting scammed.

I think you should get him the Xbox because if that is what he is happy with get it for him I mean at least he is not asking for a 360 or a PS3 which are way more expensive.
