San Antonio is great! The downtown area has a lot for kids. Of course the Alamo is there. There is also the river walk. You can take a boat cruise down the river, which is a lot of fun and very beautiful. There are some cool shops and restaurants along the river, like the Hard Rock Cafe and Rainforest Cafe. The River Center mall is good for shopping and has the IMAX theater.

We have a national park here, the Missions, which the Alamo is a part of. There are several other old mission churches along the San Antonio river, each about 2 miles from the other. They are beautiful and very interesting. Along with the churches there are other exhibits, including the homes the people lived in around the mission.

If you are into nature, Mitchell Lake Audubon Center has some wonderful birds and wildlife you can see. Its on the south side of town off of Loop 410 and Pleasanton Road. There is also an excellent zoo not far from downtown.

I hope you have a great trip!

I'm not from San Antonio but I live in Texas. I have been there several times. Depends on the kids ages they may enjoy -
1. Watching the shows at Sea World
2. Walking in the downtown Riverwalk area (looks different day vs. night)
3. Taking a boat tour
4. Visiting the Alamo
5. Watching the lively music/dancing show right by the river
6. Shopping at the riveside mall
7. Watching a movie about Alamo at the nearby IMAX theatre

I'm from San Antonio. South Side in the house! Come to the Institute of Texan Cultures. It's a museum run by the University of Texas @ San Antonio that has artifacts from all the different cultures who have come to live or lived in the region we now call Texas for the last 30,000 years.

The Alamo is about it. There are some fun shops to visit at the west end of town, I think they call it the marketsquare. We rode a bus like a trolley car from the Alamo to the marketsquare area. They have a minimal charge per person to ride down to there.
Was there a couple years ago. Ate lunch at an excellent restaurant that had a very nice large mexican bakery as part of it.
Ask the locals for the name of the restaurant that has this fresh bakery in the marketsquare. Sorry I can't remember its name. Check out the website below. Have Fun!!

If you like to shop, you absolutely have to shop at La Canterra!!! It has very nice stores that are very stylish and affordable. If you want to eat somewhere nice for dinner, I would recommend either Olive Garden (italian) or PF Changs or the BEST CHINESE RETAURANT IN THE WORLD ---CHINA SEA (chinese)! But for some good local food you can try either Bill Miller's Bar-B-Q...
Have fun and enjoy your visit to San Antonio.
